Inkululeko Yabatsha School of Arts (Iyasa) Seniors stole the limelight from Sandra Ndebele-Sibindi when they performed at the Bulawayo Beer Fest at a local hotel on Saturday night.
The show was Iyasa’s first performance in the country after the group’s just-ended European tour and its presentation showed signs of maturity, different from the old Iyasa. The group exhibited some neat nimble dance moves that mesmerised the small audience.
They performed in five sessions, taking breaks after every three songs and coming in with different dance moves every time they went on stage.
In-between Iyasa’s performance, fans were kept entertained by different games among them an eating competition and a pick-a-partner dance session.
Sandy as Sandra is known in the music circles took to stage soon after but her feat, though good, could not match the Iyasa performance.
She dished out her hit songs Guva Rangu, Mhuri Yangu Yakura and performed Ilanga’s song True Love.
Her dancers were on top of their game and drew fans out of their chairs onto the dance floor when Highlanders and Dynamos songs were sung.
There was some confusion when she invited fans back on the dance floor and revellers decided to use that opportunity to have pictures of theirs taken with her. This almost disturbed her performance as there were no police details to control them.
Her bassist, Tinashe Moyo showcased brilliant skills, playing Alick Macheso’s famous Gwekwerere Tamba Bhora and Zora Butter tunes. He also played Leonard Zhakata’s Mugove bass line with precision.
