A TRADITIONAL ritual ceremony ends in tears.
Two izangoma drowned during a ritual ceremony at Zonkeziwe River in Ekurhuleni, South Africa on Sunday.
According to a witness who asked not to be named, two taxis with passengers had travelled to the river.
“When the taxis parked a few minutes away from the river, passengers most of them izangoma, got out. One could see they were going to perform cultural rituals as the place is often used by izangoma for cleansing and cultural rituals.
“Two boys who who were wearing sangoma beats went out of the river and jumped inside,” said the eyewitness.
The eyewitness said the other group of izangoma rushed to the river, but they couldn’t see the two boys. He said some elders then called the cops.
“This was a traumatic incident as people started crying while others kept staring at the river, hoping the boys could be seen,” said the eyewitness.
Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management spokesman, William Ntladi confirmed the incident, saying their members received a call to the scene.
“The rescue team from Zonkizizwe Fire Station in collaboration with the SAPS water wing managed to retrieve the two out of the water and unfortunately, there weren’t any signs of life on both.
“Paramedics declared both men dead on the scene and the case was handed over to police for investigation,” said Ntladi.’(www.snl24.com)
