A seemingly routine mealie-meal distribution event in Matshina Village, Tsholotsho District last November became a life-transforming moment for seven-year-old Flatter Ndlovu.

Her exceptional dancing talent displayed naturally during the community event, captured the attention of onlookers and ultimately led to a scholarship from the John Landa Nkomo Foundation.

Flatter has now officially received her scholarship package, a beacon of hope for her future and a testament to the power of recognising talent in unexpected places.

The scholarship caters to all her educational needs until she completes her schooling.

Mr Jabulani Nkomo, the Foundation’s chairman said they were excited to be awarding a scholarship to the young girls who displayed composure, confidence and exceptional dancing skills that entertained guests.

“We at the John Landa Nkomo Foundation believe in nurturing potential talent wherever it may be found. Flatter’s performance was not just entertaining, it was a glimpse into a bright and confident future. We saw in her not just a dancer, but a dedicated and passionate individual with the potential to excel. This scholarship is an investment in her future, and we are confident that she will make the most of this opportunity. We hope this inspires other young people in the community.”

He said the Foundation is continuing the legacy of the late Vice-President John Landa Nkomo by ensuring access to education for all.

Mr Samuel Sipepa Nkomo, a former Cabinet Minister who attended the awarding of the scholarship said, “The late Cde John Landa always wanted to see people educated, and we have fulfilled the promise we made last year. The scholarship will cover Flatter’s tuition fees, school uniforms, books and other educational expenses, ensuring that she has access to a quality education.

“In every child lies the promise of a brighter tomorrow. It is our duty to nurture their dreams and provide the support they need to flourish. Let us pray for her to prosper in the future.”

The impact of the scholarship resonates far beyond Flatter. Her family, teachers, and the school headmistress were all overjoyed by the John Landa Nkomo Foundation’s generous gesture.

Her mother, Mrs Lingiwe Maphosa Ndlovu, expressed her heartfelt gratitude.

“I am so proud of my daughter. This scholarship is a blessing for our family. It will give Flatter the chance to receive a quality education that I could never have afforded. I am eternally grateful to the John Landa Nkomo Foundation for recognising her talent and giving her this incredible opportunity.”

Mr Naison Ndlovu, Flatter’s father, echoed the same sentiments: “We are exceedingly thankful to the John Landa Nkomo Foundation for the generous scholarship awarded to our daughter, Flatter. This gesture of support is a huge encouragement for her and our family. It not only alleviates our financial burden but also provides Flatter with the means to pursue her education without barriers.”

Mrs Yibinathi Moyo, Flatter’s teacher at Matshina Primary School, was equally thrilled and grateful.

“Flatter is a bright and enthusiastic student with a natural talent for dancing. We are so happy that she has been given this opportunity. This scholarship will not only benefit Flatter but will also inspire other students at our school to pursue their passions and strive for excellence,” she said.

The headmistress of Matshina Primary School, Mrs Barbra Sibanda expressed her pride in Flatter’s achievement.

“This is a wonderful day for our school and for the entire community. We are committed to providing a supportive and enriching learning environment for all our students, and we are confident that Flatter will continue to shine and make us proud,” said Mrs Sibanda.
