FLOURISHING China-based Zimbabwean owned football academy, Jadel Football Academy, will tomorrow hold try-outs for their 15 and Under age-group as they re-establish their Harare branch.
The trials, which will be held at Ardbennie Primary School near Mbare, will be supervised by legendary technical guru Nelson Matongorere and Dynamos legend David ”Broom Boy” George.
Former players Edward Sadomba, Maxwell Nyamupangedengu, Salim Milanzi and Martin Vengesai along with E360 Evolution will conduct the assesments.
Jadel Football Academy, which is based in Beijing, China, is directed by former Zimbabwe youth international, Walter ”Ringers” Musanhu, who has won several accolades in the Asian country in recognition for the outstanding development work he is doing.
The academy’s local structures had been put in place in 2019 but everything was thrown into disarray with the coming in of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Speaking from his base in Beijing yesterday, Musanhu, who once featured for the now-defunct Premiership side Motor Action, told The Herald that the local academy will compete in the national junior leagues while the players will have several exchange visits to China and other countries.
“We’re now selecting an official team which we will build up and prepare for the 2023 junior leagues there in Zimbabwe.
“For this particular assessment, we are looking at children born between 2007-2009,” said Musanhu.
“Basically, we are continuing from where we left before we were affected by the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“You would recall that we were just starting to establish our Zimbabwean branch which we intend to make the headquarters (in Africa).
“That didn’t happen due to the pandemic. We are now re-establishing it. Already we have our coaches Garikai Mukangairwa and Charles Maguraushe. We will also have Munyaradzi Diya doing the try-outs as well.
“We want to give every talented kid a chance and ultimately help Zimbabwe realise the vast football potential the country has.
“We will have exchange programmes between the various Jadel Football Academy establishments across the globe.
“The Zimbabwean team will be coming to China while the team here will also play games in Zimbabwe.
“We are also putting structures across Africa,” said Musanhu, who is the younger brother of Dynamos legend Chamunoda.
Chamu Musanhu, who helped Dynamos reach the 1998 CAF Champions League final under legendary coach Sunday “Mhofu” Chidzambwa, is now a football agent based in Liverpool, England, and he helps his younger brother, Walter, to run the Jadel Football Academy.
The Jadel Football Academy in China comprises different junior players from several nationalities from across the globe.
