ZIM dancehall artiste, Jah Signal, has released a tribute song to celebrate the life of ZAOGA president and founder, Archbishop Ezekiel Guti.
Titled Endai Navo, the single was released on July 7, as a dedication to Baba Guti.
In an interview, the chanter said Baba Guti was a father and a teacher.
“Baba Guti was more like a teacher to me, even growing up we used to go kuMapositori, but I would listen to his teachings and sermons even at home.
“My father is a pastor, but at the end of the day we would listen to him.
“Back home, we didn’t choose that even if we do not attend ZAOGA, it should not limit us from listening to any sermons from different churches and ministries.
“For me, personally, it was a huge loss ndakarasikirwa nababa, it broke me at a personal level at the same time I celebrated his life as someone who had won many souls to Jesus.”
He said, the Swaah family was planning to open a studio in Kuwadzana.
“My career has been a journey with many international tours and many tours all over the country and I can’t complain.
“Having collaborations with the likes of Baba Nicholas Zakaria, I have learnt a lot and I am still learning.
“Since I grew up in Kuwadzana, we are planning to open a music studio as the Swaah family so as to put the ghetto on the map, just like Mbare.
“Thanks to the management and the wisdom of Hillary Mutake. I would also like to thank everyone who has worked behind the brand Jah Signal.”
He added:
“Growing up, I was a gospel artiste but the environment I was in had Zim dancehall at its peak and, so, as an artiste, the genre is not important because I can do anything.
“If I had focused on gospel alone I would not have made it because the competition is tough.”
