A SINGLE mother of two girls says she finds comfort in gospel music and prayer as a way of nursing heartbreak.

Lavender Rufaro Maganda, who hails from Harare, believes gospel music has made her a strong and God-fearing woman.

And, after several years of singing in the church choir, Lavender has decided to follow her heart.

As a teaser, to her upcoming debut album, she released a single titled “Makandisunugura”, which can be loosely translated to “you have saved me”.

Inspired by Sharon Manyonganise, who is married to Pastor Ellard Cherayi, Lavender says she is determined to learn from others.

“I have always loved singing in church but I realised I can take my talent to another level by recording my music. With the help of my manager, Nigel Nyangombe, I am now a serious and committed artist who is determined to make an impression,

“As such, I draw inspiration from Sharon Mnanyonganise, Minister Michael Mahendere, and other artists, who starteaad before us,” she said.

The 35-year-old, who also doubles as a Safety Health Officer with a leading organisation, believes God has the  answers to all the challenges faced by people.

“As a single mother of two, I realised that it was important for me to praise the Lord and stop regretting my ruined marriage.

“I now concentrate on three things – my job, music and family.

“To my fans, who have been anxiously waiting to attend my shows or hear my music, I can safely say the new album is coming early next month.

“It will be called Thy Will be Done.”

Lavender was raised in a Christian background in Mazowe in a family of four – two girls and two boys.

She did her primary education in Harare before she completed her secondary education in Chimanimani.

Afterwards, she attained a diploma as a Safety and Health Officer. Currently, she is learning to play a piano although she is comfortable as a leading vocalist.

She says her dream is to meet Minister Mahendere and collaborate with him on one song.
