In 2004, Singe was sentenced to 12 years in prison and three years were set aside for five years on condition he does not commit a similar offence within that period. Singe yesterday appeared before Mr Hosea Mujaya who convicted him of armed robbery on his own plea of guilty.
He was sentenced to 10 years in prison and the three years which had been suspended in 2004, were brought into effect.
Singe was jointly charged with Emmanuel Saidi who is awaiting trial after he denied the charges. Their accomplice Ernest Mazake is still at large.
Prosecutor Mr Michael Reza told the court that the trio armed themselves with a Taurus revolver that had two rounds of ammunition and a crow bar before proceeding to Mark Robin Conway’s Glen Lorne home.
On arrival at the house, the trio scaled over a precast wall to gain entry into the yard. They proceeded to the house and gained entry into Cornway’s bedroom by breaking a window.
Mr Reza said that the trio confronted Cornway and pointed the revolver at his head while ordering him to remain silent or risk being shot.
They tied his hands with a pair of socks he was wearing and demanded his safe keys.
The gang stole US$1 600 which was in the safe, before ransacking the house and stealing various items worth US$3 885 belonging to Cornway and his younger brother.
A report was made to the police and investigations led to the arrest of Singe and Saidi.
