Also retained as board members were Edward Siwela, Obediah Moyo, David Ellman-Brown and Jessimine Nyakatawa.
In an announcement made by Education, Sport, Arts and Culture Minister David Coltart yesterday, three new members were sworn into office — Aaron Farai Kanyangarara, Aisha Thuliswa Tsimba and Miriam Mushayi. The trio replaced former president of the Supreme Council of Sports in Africa Zone Six Women and Sports Commission and College Sports director Eugene Chidakwa, former hockey player and administrator, Mark Manolios and judo coach Debbie Jeans.
“I am pleased to announce, having consulted with His Excellency the President R.G. Mugabe who has given his approval, the appointment in terms of Section Five of the Sports and Recreation Commission Act of the new Sports and Recreation Commission Board,” said Coltart.
Their appointment is with effect from yesterday and will run for a period of three years.
In making the appointment, Coltart looked at many factors among them administration and sporting background.
James is a former president of the Law Society of Zimbabwe and played football for Division One Club Bulawayo Wanderers while Siwela has a Master of Arts in Administration and is a former athletics coach and national team manager.
Nyakatawa also has a Master of Arts with Oxford University and she is a former president of Zimbabwe Ladies Golf Union.
Moyo has an equivalent qualification but in International Relations and was Chef de Mission Zimbabwe Paralympics team in 2008.
Holding an advanced sports management diploma and former president of the Hockey Association of Zimbabwe and captain of Zimbabwe Hockey team at the 2003 All-Africa Games is Kanyangarara while a lawyer by profession, Tsimba, is also a former chairlady of Zimbabwe Women’s Rugby.
Mushayi is a former teacher, and holds a Master of Arts in Social Policy and qualifications in Human Resource Management.
Ellman-Brown is a Chartered Accountant and Honorary Life President of Zimbabwe Cricket.
