Jaxa, Twala win big at Safta’s

Actress Tina Jaxa took home two awards at the South African Film and Television Awards (Safta’s) held at a glamorous gala event at Gallagher Estate in Midrand on Saturday evening. The event which was broadcast live on SABC3 saw the veteran actress being honoured for her long relationship with television and film industry.

Jaxa who has been in the industry for almost 30 years, took the award for Best Actress in TV Drama and Best Actress in a Feature Film for her role as the head mistress in the film Of Good Report.

Isibaya actor Siyabonga Twala’s star has been shining very brightly lately. The actor also took home two awards.
The big winner for the evening was the feature film Of Good Report directed by Jahmil X.T. Qubeka, which took six awards including best feature film director.

The Safta’s also announced the winners in the Non-Fiction and Technical categories on Friday. Anant Singh’s Long Walk to Freedom took home three Safta’s for Best Make-up/Hair, Best Costume Designer and Best Production Design in the Feature Film category.

Another prominent winner was The Wild which won three awards in the TV Soap category for Best Art Direction, Best Editor and Best DOP/Cinematographer.

In the Feature Film category director Jahmil X.T. Qubeka’s Of Good Report won an award for Best Editor while animated feature film Khumba from Cape Town-based Triggerfish Animation Studios won the award for Best Music Composition by Bruce Retief.

In the Wildlife category Touching the Dragon won two Safta’s for Best Wildlife Programme and Best Director of a Wildlife Programme.
With careers spanning more than three decades dedicated to conservation in Africa, internationally recognised and revered wildlife filmmakers Dereck and Beverly Joubert received the Lifetime Achievement Award.- SundayWorld.
