South Africa-based musician Jaycee Rappadict, who hails from Filabusi, is preparing to host his annual homecoming gig in the country, dedicating this year’s edition to the late music promoter and Insiza North legislator, Cde Farai “Boss Fimbo” Taruvinga.

Boss Fimbo died in March this year after battling cancer. He was well-known in the area, not just as a politician, but also for promoting artistes, especially emerging talent, by hosting shows at his joint, Scooter Inn and featuring them on the line-up.

Jaycee, also known as “Mr Ungaythi Vuu”, said the homecoming, slated for September 6 at Marvel Joint in Filabusi was initially planned for 2024 but had to be postponed due to Boss Fimbo’s illness.

“This postponement disappointed a lot of people, but now, we are ready to honour him the right way,” he said.

The event, according to the musician, will not just be about music.

“The day will kick off with a soccer tournament, blending arts and sport as a way to foster recreation and community spirit,” he said.

The Ungayithi Vuu hit-maker will be joined on stage by a strong line-up of both established and up-and-coming talent from the Matabeleland region, including Bhadilah, Prince Adrie, Vuu Nation Dance Group, Madala Hits, Bhora Bhora (Lockdown), Zhezhingtonz, Nessanobz, DJ Phidza, Ezengeza, Black Diva, DJ Tino, DJ Doctor Love, Yang Demy, Sheron, Tsheketsha Ogezayo, and Sola Omuhle, among others. Hosting duties will be handled by seasoned presenters, MC Peters and MC Mahlabayithwale.

The late Farai Taruvinga

Speaking ahead of the event, Jaycee Rappadict said the gig will serve as a heartfelt tribute to a man who played a pivotal role in shaping his career.

“Farai Taruvinga was more than just a promoter, he was a father figure to many of us. For me personally, he built me into who I am today. I want people to remember him as a man who gave countless individuals a chance, creating and reviving careers from local talent to those who went on to perform on international stages.”

He said the show will also celebrate his roots.

“I’ve always loved my people so much that my music is strictly directed to them, it relates to their lives, their struggles and their joys. Now it’s time to bring it back home,” he said.
Jaycee said combining music and sport was his way of uplifting communities and offering platforms for talent to be recognised.
“We are introducing the first-ever Jaycee Soccer Tournament, where the winning team will receive a full kit, a trophy and cash to boost their morale. My hope is that local artistes will use this stage to shine, so that sponsors may notice and support them. For many artistes, the lack of financial backing is the biggest stumbling block.” —
