Jazz fever spills into Chinhoyi

Mbangwa will square up with Band Too Open, who are the main act while Baba Shupi and Gerald Kanyuchi (Pakare Paye) will be the supporting act.
Running under the theme, “Jazz is not a state of mind. It is a fact of life”, the show seeks only not to excite the mind, but it is a musical life that leaves a lasting impression and have an impact on societal issues.
Show organiser Musekiwa Clinton Tapera said the fusion of genres on the jazz stage would be a new experience for all the musicians.
“Rute Mbangwa and band Too Open are our main acts while Baba Shupi and Kanyuchi are there to spice up the show.
“It is going to be a once-off experience as they share stage with some of the country’s best musicians in jazz and revellers should expect nothing but the best. There will be tight security, an excellent venue — a pavilion suitable for such kinds of events,” said  Tapera.
He said they decided to host the act in Chinhoyi as part of their efforts to promote the genre among music lovers in the Mashobaland West.
“This will be the second time that the event will be held in the town. Last year the event was successfully held at Shanguri Jazz Outfit.”
“We have come up with a different slot this year as we try to get smaller communities involved, to enjoy and partake in jazz,” said Tapera. He highlighted that the event was meant to support Harare’ s Winter Jazz Festival.
“This yet another opportunity where we are inviting jazz enthusiasts to come and enjoy themselves in a stress-free environment,” he said.
