LOCAL up-and-coming jazz group, Jade Band has appealed to local fans to support them by attending its shows. The five- member group formed in 2011 performs at different venues in the city including Terrace Gardens at Selborne Hotel, Cresta and Groove Night Club. The group spokesperson, Obert Chunda who plays the bass guitar, said local groups can only grow if they are supported by fans.

“We are unique in our own way and with the support of our local fans we should be able to go far. Local fans should be proud of their own groups and demonstrate this by coming in their numbers,” he said.

Jade Band is a Kwela, Marabi and Jazz group and members say they are inspired by music gurus like Thomas Mapfumo and the Cool Crooners.
The jazz band which doubles up as a backup band for the grand daddies of jazz, Cool Crooners, is working on their six track album which is set to be released in December this year.
“We have been in the game for about three years now and we have decided that it is high time we give fans a solid reason to rally behind us.
We are going to release a six-track album in December,” said Chunda.

The other members of the band are veteran lead guitarist Harry Gwaze who was called Little Harry in the 80s when he used to play with Thomas Mapfumo, Dunken Matombo (drummer), Steven Manyota (keyboards) and Farai Mugadza (lead vocalist).
