MISS Earth Zimbabwe pageant organisers bemoan lack of support from the corporate world. Thandekile Muringa, former Miss Zimbabwe US and Miss Earth Zimbabwe who runs the event, said few companies had committed themselves to assisting in the preparations for the Miss Earth grand finale on November 15 in the Philippines. “We appealing to companies to assist in cash and kind so that we prepare adequately for the finals,” she said.
Muringa said it was unfortunate that pageants were not taken seriously in Zimbabwe hence the lack of corporate support.
“It is important for pageants to be supported by local authorities as well as central government as many of them were involved in national programmes such as tree planting,” she said.
Muringa said pageants were meant to groom girls into responsible citizens and as such it was important for society at large and companies in particular to support the pageants.
Zimbabwe will be represented by Sandisiwe Bhule at this year’s finals.
Bhule was working on an eco-tourism video as part of her preparations.
“The video she is working on will help market Zimbabwe as a tourist destination of choice,” said Muringa.
