Jazz and Marabi fans are in for a treat as legendary musician Jeys Marabini prepares to release his 11th studio album, Umjolo, on July 31.

The 10-track album, which features songs such as Ngezama Lobolo, Themba Lami Likuwe, Yini Lo Mona, Mazwane, Thul’ Ulalele, Nomakanjan, Inkemenkeme, Ulal’ Ephenduka, We Mnano Muntu, and the title track Umjolo, promises to be more than just music – it is a reflection of Marabini’s journey, emotions, and cultural roots.

To capture a diverse sound palette, Marabini recorded Umjolo across four studios: Loud Records, Just Percy Studios, Elephant Head Studios, and P3 Studios.
“This album is a celebration. It’s an intricate blend of my life experiences – moments of love, unity, peace, and respect for culture that shape us all. Each track is meant to take listeners on a journey through life’s highs and lows, touching on themes such as love, loyalty, hope, disappointment, and faith,” Marabini said.

He revealed that Umjolo differs from his previous work, both in sound and vocal delivery. Notably, every song on the album will be accompanied by visuals directed by filmmaker Matesu Dube.
The project brought together a talented roaster of young creatives, including Mzoe 7, Smallz, Erustus Nleya, Just Percy, Obey Mudiwa, Master H (bass guitar), Rodwell Roda, Mthabisi Moyo, Thomas Madurure (lead guitar), Oktopas (keys), Simba (trumpet), Benjamin (saxophone), Nash (trampoline), Bonginkosi (percussion), and backing vocalists Brian Awa, Khulekani, and Gazi Elimnyama.
“I’m overflowing with gratitude for everyone who contributed to this album. We created great memories – from late-night jam sessions to shared laughter – while working on this project,” Marabini said.

Among his collaborators, Marabini praised producer Nathaniel “Oktopas” Chipunza, who also produced his earlier album Ntunjambila.
“Working with Oktopas has been nothing short of transformative. He is the creative heartbeat behind my sound. His production is bold, mature, and filled with originality. He hears things most of us wouldn’t even imagine, and that’s a rare gift,” he said.

Marabini expressed confidence that Umjolo is his most refined and powerful album to date, promising fans a deeply emotional and sonically rich experience.
