MUSIC promoter, Josh Hozheri, says jazz will never die.
He said this ahead of the Sub Sahara Tribe’s jazz reunion show tonight at Mzansi Meat & Liquor Hub in Bluffhill.
This show is a bit special as Big Josh is set to reunite old jazz players from Summer Breeze and Pied Pipers who have assembled a new outfit called Sub Sahara Tribe.
Vocalist Jevas Dzinotizeyi and Vincent Kapepa are the two vital cogs in the outfit calling the shots.
“We have noted that the mature crowd in Harare is now starved of their preferred stuff as most clubs host youngsters who are doing new urban music.
“The demise of Jazz 105, Manenberg and Book Café is now being felt because the mature crowd have nowhere to go yet they are big spenders.
“This is going to be a thing of the past as we are reviving the good old days following the establishment of Mzansi Meats and Liquor Hub in Bluffhill,” he said.
Hozheri, who made a name for himself by hosting high-profile jazz festivals, still believes the genre is here to stay.
“Jazz will not die as long as people like us who still have plenty to offer are still alive.
“We can’t ignore the mature crowd despite the fact that the new crop of artists has taken over.
“It took us two years putting together the Sub Sahara Tribe in our quest to revive the good old days of jazz for the mature crowd,” he said.
Mzansi Meats and Liquor Hub boss, Rumbie Masasire, assured old and new fans at the joint of a fun-filled night.
“We do promise a night of high-energy, authentic African music.
“Sub Sahara Tribe is a band that fuses traditional African music with modern sounds.
“Their music is sure to get you moving and dancing the night away.
“On Friday, you get a chance to experience a unique and vibrant culture,” she said.
Rumbie, better known as Masibz Shumba Pazvose, added:
“Sub-Sahara Tribe’s music is a reflection of the rich culture of Sub-Saharan Africa. Their songs tell stories of love, loss and joy.
“You are assured of a great time dancing the night away with them.”
With jazz lovers bemoaning lack of venues, Rumbie’s new haven could be the answer.
“Mzansi offers a safe and welcoming environment. We want everyone to feel comfortable and safe at our events.
“We will have security on site to ensure that everyone has a good time.
“We will also have a variety of food and drinks available, so you can find something to satisfy your taste buds and the staff is very friendly over here.
“Lots of mbaura to keep you warm. We are looking forward to hosting major shows, including Feli Nandi and Selmor Mtukudzi.”
