AFMZ registered a 3-2 comeback win over JCC in the Harare Christian Soccer League PANJAP Cup final at Motor Sport Action Sports Club on Sunday.
The game thrilled the sizable crowd that turned up for the social football showcase game.
Speaking after the match, AFMZ coach, Maxwell Machowane, said he was delighted they won despite going into the match as underdogs.
“We were the underdogs, and no one gave us a chance, but we thank the Almighty we sailed through.
“Being underdogs removed pressure from my players and enabled us to stick to our game plan.
“Our game plan was to utilise the spaces they left behind while attacking us, and it paid off.
“We were not happy with our goalkeeper, who made two howlers, which made life difficult for us as we had to fight to come back from two goals down,” he said.
JCC coach, Bishop Never Muparutsa, said they had a good game and their opponents were able to maximise on the mistakes they made.
“We had a very good game.
“We were all over them, but they punished us for our mistakes and came back into the game.
“That’s what soccer is about.
“You make a mistake and you get punished, but I enjoyed the game,” he said. The tournament was also used as a crusade to warn the youths about the dangers of drug abuse and indulging in bad habits.
