MBUYA Madhuve family yesterday hailed Clive Malunga after he fulfilled his promise of erecting a tombstone for the late mbira prayer and spiritualist.
The yesteryear artist died in 2009 after being released from prison and was buried in her rural home in Mugugu Village.
And, 13 years after her death, the former Guruve Stars founder’s grave was in bad state.
After learning about the condition, Malunga, a musician, researcher and promoter, decided to spruce up Mbuya Madhuve’s grave.
He purchased a tombstone, which was erected over the weekend.
Speaking to H-Metro, family spokesperson Elisha Rukomba said they were ecstatic after the programme went according to plan.
“On behalf of the Rukomba family, I would like to express my delight after we successfully unveiled the tombstone for my sister.
“As a family, we had completely failed to erect a tombstone due to lack of resources until Clive Malunga came on board,” he said.
Rukomba said he never doubted Malunga, who used to promote his sister, during the days of the Jenaguru festivals, which used to be held at Gwanzura in Highfield.
To date, Jenaguru has erected the tombstone for Tineyi Chikupo with the likes of Biggie Tembo set to benefit from him.
Malunga has been engaging families of departed musicians with the intention to erect tombstones for them free of charge.
Rukomba said Mbuya Madhuve was not an ordinary artist.
“She was a talented artist who deserves all the respect and honour for what she did.
“Her songs touched the hearts of many and she deserves to be respected as a heroine of our time,” he said.
