A DOMESTIC dispute in Qagani Village, Chief Malisa, Silobela, has taken a deadly turn after a 29-year-old man allegedly forced his wife to drink poison, leading to her slow and agonising death months later.
According to a chilling News Bulletin released by the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) on 4 April 2025, Norest Ndhlovu appeared at the Kwekwe Magistrates’ Court facing murder charges over the incident that has rocked the quiet Midlands community.
The State alleges that on the night of 17 May 2024 at around 9PM, Ndhlovu assaulted his wife during a domestic dispute and shoved a poisonous substance down her throat. The woman was hospitalised and later discharged, but her condition deteriorated over time. She reportedly shuffled in and out of hospital until the poison claimed her life on 4 March 2025.
Following his court appearance, Ndhlovu was remanded in custody until 17 April 2025 as investigations continue.
In a strong message to the public, the NPAZ urged citizens to peacefully resolve domestic disputes or seek third-party mediation, warning that “Crime Does Not Pay.”
This tragic incident underscores the terrifying reality of gender-based violence and the urgent need for communities to speak out and intervene before conflicts turn fatal.
