A JEALOUS MAN from Kwekwe in Midlands province accused his girlfriend of cheating on him and allegedly struck her three times on the head leading her to tumble to the ground and fall unconscious.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority, Runyararo Moyo (34) was hauled before Kwekwe magistrate facing charges of attempted murder. He pleaded guilty to the charge.
He was slapped with a 30-month jail sentence. The magistrate suspended 15 months and he will effectively serve 15 months in jail.
A court heard that in August, Moyo called Samantha Machivenyika (32) on her phone and quizzed her if she was involved in an extra-marital affair, but she denied it.
Machivenyika requested her to come to her family home so that they could solve the matter. He went there and they slept at her family home. On the following day Samantha left for work, while she was at work Moyo phoned her once again and asked her whether she was two-timing him or not.
But she again denied ever cheating on him. On that particular day, Machivenyika did not return home and slept at her workplace. On the following day, Moyo visited her at her workplace and accused her of cheating on him.
An argument broke out between Moyo and her. In the heat of the moment, Moyo struck her three times on the head and once on the hands with a machete. She tumbled to the ground and fell unconscious.
A community member arrived at the scene and ferried her to hospital. The matter was reported to the police leading to the arrest of Moyo.
