JAZZ crooner, Jeys Marabini, reckons his audience building mission is bearing fruit.

The 53-year-old returns to the capital by public demand this weekend.

The crooner is part of the line-up performing at the World Music Day show slated for Alliance Francaise this Saturday.

World Music Day is celebrated on June 21 every year.

However, the Alliance Francaise (Harare) – hub of cultural diversity – will mark the event before the internationally-recognised date.

Speaking to H-Metro from his base in Bulawayo, Jeys said he was looking forward to the new challenge.

“We are ready and we are currently in a rehearsal room right now preparing for the gig as we speak.

“We are really preparing for a massive performance this Saturday.

“We urge fans to come and enjoy unique music from Bulawayo.

“I’m really excited.

“The Harare people are now behind the Jeys Marabini brand right now.

“I would like to thank the people who have been pushing my brand this year.

“It all started this year when we hosted a ‘Meet the People’ tour in Ruwa and Harare as well as performing at the just-ended Jazz & Soul of Zim Music Festival.

“The feedback after our performances was just encouraging.

“We are the next big thing in Zimbabwe. We are coming back in full force.”

Asked what has been stopping him from holding regular shows in Harare, Jeys said:

“There was nothing which was holding me.

“It’s just that I was coming for big functions like national musical galas but not as an individual.

“This time around I have decided to tour on my own as Jeys Marabini.

“I decided to take that advice to come to Harare after the recent visits.

“In most cases I was performing one or two songs and we were done.

“On Saturday, we are going to have one and a half hours of my music.”

Outlining is vision, Jeys reckons the sky is the limit.

“Everyone is now talking about my music and its freshness.

“We want to go to Europe. We want to go to Asia and sample our music. We want to go to Australia.

“But, first of all, we need to make it in our country before we can decide to go on tour.

“I’m really determined to make sure that this performance comes very nice.

“We are coming with something new.

“I have faith in the fellow artists that are part of the line-up – Iyana, Josh Meck and Trust Samende.”
