But this year sees the popular musical extravaganza at the Amphitheatre on December 21.
The son of Matabele, Jeys, has already indicated that he intends to defend his territory even in the face of some of the most sought-after musical geniuses.
“This is a professional show with some of the country’s top artistes and being selected to be among the top just confirms who I am,” he said.
Jeys, who recently celebrated his 40th birthday in styl, urged his fans to come in their numbers to watch their idols in action.
“This is our show and I am calling upon local music fans to come in their numbers and support their own musician perform alongside some of the leading music greats in the country,” said Marabini.
He promised fans that he would dish out some of the tracks from his latest album, Jeys @40, which is expected to be out by mid this month.
The man, who at one time contemplated relocating to Harare, says he has realised that Bulawayo is his hunting ground and he will defend it.
Show promoter Partson “Chipaz” Chimbodza said the idea to bring the gig to the City of Kings was long overdue, as it was now one of the big events on the entertainment calendar that needed to be rotated in all provinces.
“The Shutdown brand has been growing, hence the need to spread its wings. There is no reason for us to confine entertainment to Harare. We need to introduce shows of this magnitude in all provinces,” he said.
Peter will be leading Utakataka in Bulawayo for the first time since taking over the reigns while Jeys joins the elite club to thrill his magnitude of fans.
Chipaz also explained the inclusion of Peter in the line-up saying he was impressed with the way the young man had handled himself so far.
“I have been closely monitoring his performance and as long as he continues to deliver polished acts, he will always be part of the cream of musicians,” said Chipaz.
Peter has been enjoying capacity crowds at all his shows since taking over Utakataka Express and has thanked Chipaz for the confidence he has shown in him.
“Including me at such shows is a major boost of confidence to me and the band. It is through such gigs that I and Utakataka keep my father’s legacy alive. I am very grateful to Chipaz,” said Peter.
