A CHIPINGE man committed suicide after failing to fathom the fact that his fiancée had dumped him on the day he was supposed to pay her bride price.

Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa, confirmed the death of Thulani Chikware (21) of Chifamatye Village under Chief Musikavanhu. Insp Kakohwa said Chikware, in the company of his elder brother, Courage, visited his 16-year-old girlfriend’s homestead to pay her lobola.

“Upon arrival, the girlfriend informed him that she was no longer interested in marrying him. The change of plans did not go down well with Chikware who went back home with his brother in anger,” said Insp Kakohwa.

When the pair arrived home, Chikware instructed his brother to go and collect some money in the house so that he could travel to South Africa since his fiancée had dumped him.

“Thulani had vanished when Courage came out of the house. Courage told their older brother, Sisiye Chikware (33) and a search was conducted,” said Insp Kakohwa.

Thulani was later found dead hanging from a nearby tree.
