HARARE regional magistrate Mr Nowel Mupeiwa has jailed a 24-year-old man from Epworth after he found him guilty of raping his ex-girlfriend (15) in a toilet.

Liberty Gondo was convicted after a full trial. He had pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The State, led by Mrs Cecilia Mashingaidze, proved that on a date unknown but during the early month of September 2025, and along Chiremba Rd, Epworth, the complainant met with Gondo, who proposed love to her and she accepted.

The court heard that later on, the complainant discovered that Gondo was a married man and she cancelled the love affair and blocked all communication with him, but Gondo kept on using different numbers to get in touch with the complainant, who refused to entertain him.

It was the State’s case that sometime in mid-September 2025, Gondo went to the complainant’s house at around 7pm, and he saw the complainant coming out of the toilet, pulled her back inside and raped her.

Mrs Mashingaidze told the court that the complainant tried to shout for help, but Gondo covered her mouth.
