STUNNED by being rejected by his lover, a 48-year-old Nyanga man committed suicide at the woman’s homestead last week.
Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, confirmed the death of Zealot Nyagato of Nyajezi resettlement area under Chief Saunyama, Nyanga.
Assistant Inspector Chinyoka said Nyagato visited his former partner, Alice Museta (47), at her homestead on October 15, around 2pm when he met more than what he had bargained for when their conversation turned sour.
This prompted Museta to abruptly end their relationship, leaving him heartbroken. Upon conveying the sad news to an apprehensive Nyagato, an unperturbed Museta immediately left her homestead for Charamba Business Centre.
Nyagato remained seated outside the kitchen hut, waiting for Museta’s return, which never came.
Later that evening Museta’s children prepared a meal and offered it to Nyagato, who declined to eat.
The children retired to bed leaving Nyagato behind.
The following morning, around 5am, the children woke up to prepare for school and were met with a horrifying sight.
They found Nyagato’s lifeless body hanging from a tree in their yard.
The children immediately alerted a neighbhour, Edith Kennedy, who informed Museta.
The matter was reported to the police in Nyanga, who attended the scene, removed the body, and transported it to Nyanga District Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Nyagato’s post-mortem results confirmed that the cause of death was asphyxia due to hanging.
