Efforts by a Hwange man to fix his small house for dumping him by stealing her mobile phone backfired after he was dragged to court for stealing the wrong cellphone.
Twalumba Makhaye (27) of Makwika village allegedly demanded back a Nokia cellphone he had bought his girlfriend, Gracious Mathe, after their relationship turned sour. However, after she refused, he broke into her house and took a Sony Ericsson belonging to Alice Tshuma.

He was convicted on his own plea of guiltly when he appeared before provincial magistrate Ms Portia Mhlanga facing theft and unlawful entry charges. He was fined $100 or one month imprisonment.

Prosecuting, Mr Charlene Gorerino told the court that sometime in February this year, Makhaye bought his girlfriend a Nokia cellphone.
However, a misunderstanding ensued between the two resulting in him being dumped.

Irked by Mathe’s move to get rid of him, Makhaye demanded his gift back and she refused.
Still tormented by being heartbroken, on 7 February Makhaye went to house number 75 in Makwika village where he unlawfully entered the premises belonging to Tshuma which she shared with Mathe. He took a Sony Ericsson phone he found on top of a television set and went away unnoticed.

His luck ran out after Tshuma noticed Makhaye’s wife using her cellphone prompting her to confront her before reporting the matter to the police leading to his arrest.
