Jilted teacher assaults cheating colleague

A TEACHER at Ndolwane Primary School in Bulilima District beat up his pregnant female colleague for dumping him. A source at the school said Calton Masumba, 26, discovered that his girlfriend, Sithakazelelo Sibanda, 24, had been impregnated by another man.  “Calton and Sithakazelelo were in love and staff at the school knew about their relationship. To his disappointment Calton found out last month that his girlfriend had been impregnated by another man.

“He questioned Sithakazelelo about it and she came clean and told Calton that their relationship had come to an end as she was carrying another man’s child,” said the source.

He added: “Their work relationship grew sour from that day as they have been continuously arguing and Calton has been passing negative comments about his ex-girlfriend.

“On the evening she was assaulted we heard Sithakazelelo screaming from her cottage and we found Calton beating her up. He was cursing her pregnancy and wishing her a negative outcome,’’ said the source.

Sibanda then reported the matter to the school’s deputy headmaster who alerted the police resulting in Masumba’s arrest.
Masumba was scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday but Plumtree magistrate Livard Philemon ordered that further investigations had to be carried out before commencement of the trial.

The facts from the court are that on March 15, the accused person went to the complainant’s cottage around 7PM. A misunderstanding arose between the two and the accused person insulted the complainant by mentioning her anus. He went on to hit her with a stool and punched her on the face.

The complainant’s screams for help alerted other staff members who came to her aid.
Masumba will be advised of his trial date by way of summons.

He is facing charges of criminal insult and assault.
