The woman, Highlife Kanjanda (23) yesterday appeared before Gweru provincial magistrate Mr Sithembinkosi Msipa facing two counts of assaulting her ex-husband, Mr Wonder Gandalala.
Kanjanda pleaded guilty to the two counts and was given a wholly suspended sentence of five months on condition of good behaviour.
In passing the sentence, the court took into consideration the fact that Ms Kanjanda was pregnant.
The ex-husband, who is based at Mtapa Police Stations is said to be responsible for the pregnancy.
Kanjanda of 369 Foya Rd Ascot who is five months pregnant had approached the courts to review her monthly maintenance from $140 to $200 per month, which the former husband opposed.
The court heard that soon after the magistrate, Miss Primrose Nyika had ruled in favour of Mr Gandalala, Kanjanda grabbed him by the collar and started beating him up as they were making their way out of the court.
For the State, Mr Justos Makwena told the court that on Thursday last week, Kanjanda and her ex-husband, Mr Gandalala attended a maintenance court.
Mr Makwena said the magistrate who presided over the case ruled in favour of Mr Gandalala and that did not go down well with Kanjanda who then grabbed him by collar and started punching him.
Mr Gandalala was saved from further assault by prison and police officers who restrained Kanjanda and cautioned her for her behaviour before releasing her.
Mr Makwena said on the same day, Kanjanda followed Mr Gandalala to his house in Ascot suburb and threatened to hang herself at his house if he refused to increase the maintenance money.
When Mr Gandalala tried to restrain Kanjanda from hanging herself, she bit him on the left thumb and he sustained a deep cut.
Mr Makwena said Kanjanda was apprehended by neighbours who took her to the police at Mtapa Police Station where a report of assault was made.
