Jnr tennis players fall in Tunisia

match of the competition.

The team, comprising Karen Machisa, Kimberly Bhunu and Munashe Kaome, started their campaign in this tournament on the losing note on Tuesday when they lost by the same score to Madagascar.

And on Wednesday they failed to revive their hopes of booking a place in the finals to be held in Prostejov, Czech Republic, from 5 to 10 August as they suffered their second defeat at the hands of South Africa.

In their first match of the day, Karen Machisa lost 1-6, 6-4, 2-6 to Minette Van Vreden.
Machisa lost the first set before turning the tables when she took the second set 6-4, but could not maintain the momentum as she lost 2-6 in the deciding set.

It was the same story for Bhunu as she went down 2-6, 4-6 to Zani Barnard in the other match. Machisa and Bhunu then teamed up for the doubles and they found the going tough as they were outclassed 0-6, 0-6 by the pair of Lee Barnard and Zani Barnard.

Zimbabwe, who were hoping to qualify for the World Junior finals for the first time, are now out of contention for the main event having lost all their matches so far.

They were scheduled to take on the hosts, Tunisia yesterday in another tough encounter. Tunisia will be hoping to redeem themselves having lost 0-3 to Madagascar.

They are also yet to win a match.
In other matches played on Wednesday, Egypt defeated Morocco 3-0.

So far Egypt is leading on the log standings with two points followed by Madagascar and South Africa.
The five-day tournament is being played in a round robin and the top country will progress to the finals in August.
