ST Johns to defend Super8

Coach Wellington Ndimutseyi is confident his team will rise to the occasion in their backyard.
Their opening match is against Hellenic.

“I am confident that my team will retain the title, the boys looks to be a strong team,” said Ndimutseyi.
“Last year we had a good strong team that had the trio of Mufaro Chareka, Dustin Pike and Tristan Evans who won all their games at the event.

“This time around the boys are doing well during training and I am happy with their skill, their line-outs and our  forwards also look good.

“We might get some competition against Gateway but I believe in the boys.”
The teams have been divided into Pools A and B.

Pool A will have Gateway, Hartmann House, Eaglesvale and Alex Park while Pool B features St John’s, Hellenic, Heritage and Highlands.

The tournament will be played in a round-robin format.
St John’s have won the Super8 tournament since 2009.

Highlands were the first school to win in 2004.
In 2005 to 2007, St John’s won the festival before Gateway triumphed in 2008, but St John’s have been dominant since 2009.

The tournament is used to select the Mashonaland Under-13 team for the Inter-provincials, the Owen Davies tournament, in Bulawayo in August.

Ndimutseyi said 40 players will be picked for the Harare A and B teams.
“The good 40 players will be selected and we hope the Harare teams will be as good as those that were there last years because they played well and won,” said Ndimutseyi.
