THE education sector must work closely with industry to enable job skills alignment for high school pupils.
Addressing hundreds of pupils at Emmanuel High School in Nyanga at a career guidance workshop, an official with ZB Bank, Mr Kege Saul Clemance, said there should be closer cooperation between education and commerce.
“Closer cooperation is needed to ensure seamless transitions at all levels to be vital, as we build a workforce that will be able to drive a thriving economy,” he said.
“Continuous capacity building is inevitable if we are to maintain the momentum of the future of work, this is necessary to sustain the level of growth and innovation in this sector.
“It (career guidance) is a unique opportunity to form partnership between potential employers and employees entering work life as it is a two-way process. Students, you have to make yourselves attractive to employers. Companies also have to make the equal effort to attract the best students.”
The workshop was held under the theme; “The future of work”.
Several schools from Nyanga district attended the event and these included Kambudzi, Nyanga, Regina Coeli high schools and Manjanja and Nyautare primary schools.
Organisations that exhibited included National Social Security Authority (NSSA), Great Zimbabwe University, ZimParks, Zimpapers, Zimbabwe Republic Police and Harare Institute of Technology (HIT).
A pupil from Kute High School, Tafadzwa Chipondwa (15), said the event was an eye-opener as it made students aware of what industry expected.
“I am grateful that the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has given us an opportunity to explore a variety of jobs we can do after we complete our studies,” he said.
