TELONE coach Herbert “Jompano” Maruwa is happy with the way the new pieces are fitting into his blocks ahead of the 2025 Premiership season.
The Gweru outfit have been silently making significant signings during this off-season transfer period.
It’s an emphatic response to their struggles last season and the team are looking formidable at least on paper, thanks to the massive support they are getting from the parent company.
They prized away Dynamos captain Frank Makarati, along with the likes of Milton Chimedza, Bruno Mtigo, Leeroy Murape, Tawanda Macheke and Gerald Bero.
“I am very happy with the progress that we have made at the team so far. The boys are gelling in well.
“In our practice matches, we are not looking much into the results but the way we are progressing, the way we are attaining fitness levels both mentally and physically.
“I am happy so far in that respect,” said Maruwa.
He added:
“We are looking into the issue of combinations as you know we have brought in a lot of new guys into the team. We are trying those new combinations so that we can make a team.”
Maruwa, who joined Telone when they were rock-bottom last year and managed to steer them to safety, said everything is work in progress and he was looking forward to taking the team to a better place.
He has decided against being over-ambitious instead saying the WiFi Boys will be looking to finish in a better place than 10th position they attained last year.
“I think as a team, we finished strongly last season. We need to make sure that we improve. We finished 10th last year and we need to move up to the top-eight I think.
“We are trying to work on combinations and to make sure that we have become a complete team,” added Maruwa.
“It’s a process but I feel we are in the right direction. We have added a lot of depth in the team. We already had some determination in the side but we were very short in terms of experience.
“I think having someone like Makarati (Frank), Bruno (Mtigo), Xolani (Moyo), Leeroy (Murape), Gerald (Bero), Chris (Mverechena) alongside a lot more guys who have seen a lot of top-flight action comes in as a huge plus on our part.”
