The sponsored walk event, organised by Zimpapers journalists from the Bulawayo branch drew scribes from other media houses and started from the Large City Hall and ended at Hillside Dams Conservancy.

Chronicle staff yesterday embarked on a march to raise funds for baby Manqoba.

During the walk, a song penned by Bulawayo artistes was sampled to the public. Bulawayo artistes, individuals, journalists, Zimpapers Bulawayo branch management and workers and businesspeople participated in the sponsored walk.

Addressing those who took part in the walk, B-Metro editor Tumeliso Makhurane said he was touched by the amount of hard work that was put in organising the march and the concert.

“I am grateful and humbled by the work done here, I know people had other things to do today but you set them aside and came together to assist for a worthy cause. May the spirit of ubuntu exhibited here continue with other initiatives,” he said.
One of the organisers of the event, Robin Muchetu from Sunday News said she and her team were impressed with the outcome.

“We had very little time to put this together but it all worked out and we got the much needed support for the event. It will definitely go a long way in assisting baby Manqoba,” said Muchetu.

She said they were still working on the figures from the amount raised from the march and other intiatives in Bulawayo.
However, as of last week about $18 000 had been raised, with part of the money raised from Harare.

“The journey does not end here, but it has just started. We cannot give up now and the sooner we raise the remaining amount the better, what we do not have now is time. We will stop only when the amount reaches the required $43 000,” said Muchetu.

The walk was made possible by various companies from in and around the city who include Zimpapers, Hawkflight Construction, Hillside Dams Conservancy, Buy n’ Build, Bonsa Spar, Boom City, Mimosa Mine, Bakers Inn, Udine, Bravo Tours, Delta Beverages, Travellers Guest Lodges, Private Lounge, Wholesale Beef, West Acre Butchery, Unki Mine and Leumar Investments of Victoria Falls.
