Two journalists from the Midlands Province have entered the political fray and will be contesting council seats on the Zanu-PF ticket. Tawanda Munikwa and Owen Matava, both of whom are publishers of community newspapers in Kwekwe, will be contesting in Kwekwe’s Ward 6 and 10 respectively.
In separate interviews, the two journalists said they were confident of romping to victory under the revolutionary party ticket.
“I am hopeful that I will sail through. I intend to represent the ruling party and help develop the city of Kwekwe,” said Munikwa.
Munikwa will battle it out in the primaries slated for 5 May with incumbent Councillor Maclean Nyamucherera.
Matava, will battle it out with MDC-T incumbent Councillor Aaron Gwalazimba if he emerges victorious in the revolutionary party primaries slated for 5 May.
He said he was prepared to help develop his ward when elected.
“I am confident of winning, and I also want to make a significant contribution to my city,” he said.
Minister of Information Technology and Courier Services Supa Mandiwanzira and former Minister of Sports Makhosini Hlongwane are some of the journalists to have successfully exchanged the pen for politics.
