CONTINUOUS abuse and threats from her ex-husband forced a Mutare woman to approach the Civil Courts praying for a protection order. Appearing before magistrate, Miss Venencia Mugota, Bridget Mutare told the court that her ex-husband, Fungai Mutangira was in the habit of disturbing her peace since their separation.
She said Mutangira frequented her place of residence with the intentions of disturbing her peace. “My ex-husband is abusive Your Worship. He comes at my place of residence to disturb my peace. I am no longer at peace, yet we separated last year in June.
“Whenever he visits me, he causes mayhem to an extent that the landlord ends up giving me endless notices to move out of the house I am currently staying in.
“I am tired of his abusive behaviour and I now need the law to protect me,” said Mutare.
Mutare went on to tell the court that on February 6, she retired home from work only to see Mutangira in her house throwing out her belongings while threatening to burn them.
Asked to explain his side of the story, Mutangira admitted to abusing Mutare as she had claimed, therefore he was consenting to the granting of the protection order.
Mutangira said: “I do not oppose the granting of the protection order, but this woman is also a nuisance. She took away all my clothes to where she is currently staying, therefore I had to visit her to collect them.
“I never divorced her for I was a responsible man. I used to buy groceries for her and the family, but she chose to move out of our matrimonial house. She sent our children to the rural areas just because she wanted to go out clubbing every day. She is now a lady of the night, Your Worship.
“She has been influenced by her friend who escorted her to court to do the commercial sex work. I no longer love her. Let her go her own way. I just want to live with my children in peace,” he said.
Miss Mugota granted the protection order in favour of Mutare, saying that she was entitled to her peace.
