Award-winning Gospel musician Everton Mlalazi has joined forces with celebrated gospel ensemble Joyfull Praise Choir on a powerful worship anthem titled Jesu Anochengeta, a spiritually uplifting collaboration that has taken the local gospel music scene by storm.
Loosely translated as “Jesus Protects” or “Jesus Keeps,” the song delivers a comforting message of redemption, grace and divine protection.
Rich in worship and emotion, the track prominently features themes from the timeless hymn “Chief of Sinners Though I Be,” reminding believers that Christ remains faithful even in moments of weakness, failure, brokenness and uncertainty.
With its heartfelt lyrics and soothing melodies, Jesu Anochengeta is already resonating deeply with gospel music lovers, many describing it as a song of hope and reassurance in difficult times.
Mlalazi, who leads the song, said he felt deeply honoured to collaborate with Joyfull Praise Choir on the moving masterpiece.
“Some songs do not just become melodies, they become prayers wrapped in sound. Jesu Anochengeta is a reminder that even in our weakness, failures and broken moments, the love of Christ never walks away from us.
“He saw our scars, carried our sins to the cross, and still chooses to keep and protect us every single day. May this song remind someone today that grace still speaks, mercy still flows, and Jesus still keeps His own,” said Mlalazi.
Meanwhile, preparations for Mlalazi’s much-anticipated homecoming event, the Ekhaya Worship Festival, are gathering momentum in Bulawayo. The free-for-all worship gathering is expected to attract more than 15 000 worshippers to Hartsfield Rugby Grounds on Africa Day, May 25.
Apart from host Mlalazi, the festival will feature South African gospel stars Zaza Mokhethi and Dumi Mkokstad, alongside local acts including Oncemore Six, Canaan Nyathi and acclaimed acappella group Reality 7.
Other performers lined up for the spiritually charged event include Dunamis Men, Nkosi Herman, Mai Mwamuka, Conquerors, Pastor Barak Family, Zimpraise, Family Voices, Lorraine Maplanka, Vocal Ex, Vocal Base, Blessing Jeduthun, Loveness Mukutirwa, Mwenda Shimunzhila, iWorship Zim and Tehillah Testament.
The festival will begin at 9am and continue late into the evening, promising a day filled with worship, praise and spiritual renewal.
