Harare Bureau
ARMED police details have been deployed to guard Mashonganyika Building, which houses the Supreme Court and the Constitutional Court, following a recent break-in and theft from the chambers of Chief Justice Godfrey Chidyausiku. Chief Justice Chidyausiku lost a desktop computer and a television set last week to unidentified burglars. Five days after the break-in, four Supreme Court judges, whose names were not revealed, lost keys to their chambers under unclear circumstances, a development that prompted Judicial Service Commission acting

secretary Justice Rita Makarau to write to police Commissioner General Augustine Chihuri seeking protection.
The police officers were deployed on Friday evening, reinforcing private security guards who had been guarding the premises.

Burglars broke into Chief Justice Godfrey Chidyausiku’s chambers last week and stole a computer and a television set.
After the first incident, Justice Makarau assured the public that the loss of Chief Justice Chidyausiku’s computer had no effect on any court matters or judgements pending before him or the Supreme and Constitutional courts.

Justice Makarau believed the theft could have been motivated by a search for information while the television set case could be a mere theft for financial gain.
She said the break-in was the first of its kind in the history of the judiciary.
