THE Judicial Service Commission (JSC) is exhibiting at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) for the first time.
The Chief Registrar of the Superior Courts, Munamato Mutevedzi said the move by the JSC to participate in this year’s exhibition was in line with the organisation’s thrust to raise public awareness on the operations of the courts.

“This is our maiden exhibition at ZITF and it comes in the wake of JSC campaigns that we’ve been carrying out throughout the country to raise awareness among the public in relation to how courts operate.

“We believe it’s essential to participate at the ZITF because the general public has a knowledge gap as far as the justice system is concerned hence we want people to have a better understanding of our objectives, goals and vision,” said Mutevedzi.

He said the JSC was exhibiting under the theme, “Access to Justice-Know your Courts.”

“Our theme blends in well with the ZITF theme, “Stimulating Trade, Seizing Opportunities to Accelerate Growth.” In our case, we’re therefore stimulating trade through access to justice,” said Mutevedzi.

The JSC is exhibiting in Hall 2A where officials are manning six help desks that offer information on the organisation’s secretariat, Master of the High Court, magistrates’ courts, the Sheriff of the High Court and the superior courts comprising the Constitutional Court, Supreme Court, Labour Court, High Court and the Administrative Court.

“We’ll answer everything that the public wants to know about the JSC as we’ll be having six desks,” said Mutevedzi.

The Chief Justice Godfrey Chidyausiku and the secretary of the JSC Justice Rita Makarau among other senior officials will tour the stand on Friday.

The event coordinator, Enias Magate said the JSC was committed to offering world class judicial services as part of its vision.  “Our aim is to raise awareness on the mandate of the JSC and foster public trust and confidence in the country’s justice system. We hope through our participation at this year’s ZITF, we’ll be able to help the public improve its knowledge of the court system,” he said.

Magate said the JSC had lined up several events throughout the country to educate the public on the operations of the courts.

Matabeleland North Open Day started yesterday and will end on May 2 while Gweru will host the Midlands Open Day on May 30. On June 27, Matabeleland South will have its Open Day in Beitbridge.
