Bulawayo-based Army side Jumbo Queens stormed into Zimbabwe Netball Association Super League over the weekend after finishing second in the national play-offs held in Harare.Jumbo Queens were promoted alongside Corn Gold Mara (Midlands), Warthog and Support Unit from Harare.
Coach Themba Siziba was on cloud nine after his team earned promotion to the elite league this season.
“We were not expecting to qualify because the competition was tough compared to yesteryears, but we played our hearts out to qualify, I’m so happy,” said Siziba.
He said they would brace themselves for stiffer competition. He said they would not be there to make up the numbers but to compete.
“We hoping to beef up the squad, we have already identified the suitable players, what’s left is to approach them, after we sit down as a team,” he said.
Jumbo Queens have joined Khami Queens, Hwange Colliery and ZPC Hwange who are in the Super League and are from the region.
Zina president Leticia Chipandu said they used the play-offs to scout for more players for the national teams.
“We have also used these opportunity to select players to beef up the teams. Junior and senior teams will be participating in international tournaments,” she said.
