THE National Association of Secondary School Heads (Nash) Bulawayo Province has set the dates for competitions for this term. Head-in-charge of the sport Peter Gambiza yesterday said they expect secondary schools to start preparing for various competitions.“The calendar is out, now schools can start preparing for the competitions.
“It is also an added advantage that we started with a workshop for coaches and referees, so that the knowledge cascades down to students,” said Gambiza.
Bulawayo Metropolitan Province has five districts which are Mzilikazi, Khami, Reigate, Bulawayo Central and Imbizo. The first event will be on February 20, a cross-country championship with track and field competitions held a day later.
The provincial finals would be held at the National University of Science and Technology in March while the nationals are set for Marondera in the same month.
Gambiza, who heads Northlea High School said they expect better performances this year at the national championships compared to last year.
“Our aim this year is to perform better than last year. We finished last which was embarrassing, now we are hoping to do better and even come first if possible.
“We have come up with a strategic path and we are working hand in hand with the Bulawayo Athletics Board so that we can improve,” he said.
