Junior athletes in race for World champs

coming track and field Zimbabwean athletes is expected to arrive in Windhoek, Namibia, for the Confederation of African Athletics’ Southern Region Junior Championship.
The competition, with its electronic timing, will be used as a platform to select juniors from the Southern Africa for the world event.
Zimbabwe’s team manager, Limisati Pakamisa, yesterday was confident some of his athletes will do well.
“We are carrying a team of juniors for the CAA regional qualifiers to Namibia and this is an attempt to see some of them qualifying for the World Championships in Barcelona, Spain.
“Basically we have some of our top athletes who will be trying to get qualifying times which are electronically timed so that they can be considered for the Junior World Championships,” said Pakamisa.
The Zimbabwe team is made up of some of the athletes who have dominated at the youth competitions.
Sprinter Tinashe Mutanga, who won gold in the African boys’ 100m in 2010, has been selected for the team.
Dumisani Bhebhe (100m and 200m) was in fine form during the recently held National Association of Secondary School Heads Athletics championships at in Plumtree. Andile Ndlovu, who was in top form in the girls’ 100m race, and Sithulisiwe Zhou, have been selected in the team that also includes Wendy Mhlanga.
