BULAWAYO province has selected about 30 Under-15 players for a provincial team set to compete with other provinces leading to the creation of a national squad that will be funded by Fifa.
Zifa board member for development, Mkhululi Mthunzi said a panel made up of football experts had identified 30 potential players from the metropolitan citya��s six districts.
The makeshift squad will compete with other provincial teams.
The panel is made up of Alibaba Dube, Dumaza Dube, and Gibson Homela among others.
a�?Our panelists have gone to all the six districts of Bulawayo province to identify potential young players that would be part of the makeshift squad,a�? he said.
Mthunzi said after all the provinces have competed a final squad that would be having potential players would be developed into a national team.
He said the panel would choose the best players from each province.
a�?After each and every competition we would choose the best players that would be part of the squad. This squad would be kept together and groomed for six years. We are rest assured after that the players would be able to compete locally and internationally,a�? he said.
Mthunzi said the players who would have made it into the squad would have their school fees paid for by Fifa and some would stand a high chance to secure scholarships to further their education abroad.
