“It is a good feeling to have made such an achievement. I worked hard for this and I am happy it has finally happened,” he said.
“His Excellency” is on record as declaring it during his manifesto before he was elected the Junior President. He said he was going to put to rest once and for all the misconception that when children get into Parliament their grades drop.
“I mentioned it before I was sworn in that I was going to come up with 15 points and nothing less. All this time, everyone was awaiting the results to see if I had scored 15,” he said.
The Child President, however, said it was no easy task as he had to work extra hard to compensate for the time he spent doing presidential duties.
“My tenure as Child President was demanding and some of the time we would spend a lot of time away from school. I would, however, make it a point to go the extra mile and at one time I stayed behind during the holiday to study. I would also read at night and credit goes to my mentor, the head of our school, Mr Mukoyi, who motivated me to work hard,” he said.
He also acknowledged the efforts put in by the Zimbabwe Youth Council, the co-ordinators of the Junior Parliament, for guiding him and preparing him for the exams. He urged other students to set their priorities right if they need to achieve academic excellence.
“The most important thing in life is to know yourself, who you are, where you come from and where you are going. Most people want to define you but the best account of yourself can only come from you. To other parliamentarians I say ‘what man has done men can do’.
“There is nothing impossible and you can get anything if they work hard. I am an ordinary child who worked to be where I am. I intend to study medicine because it has always been a passion of mine,” he said.
The teen also spoke of his ambitions of making a return into politics. He said when he is much older he would like to actively participate in the politics of Zimbabwe.
Communications officer at the ZYC Innocent Katsande also expressed his delight at the child president’s success.
“We as the ZYC are thrilled by the Junior President’s academic excellence. As is the norm, our Junior Presidents are naturally intelligent children. They go through intensive scanning before we select the very best,” he said.
Katsande highlighted that Junior President Rangwani has met the expectations and others ought to follow his lead.
“We are going to work closely with him to make sure he realises his dream of pursuing his education. We are now determined to fight for our outstanding junior parliamentarians to be considered for the Presidential Scholarship.
Katsande also pointed out that over the years the children’s parliament has moulded brilliant students who, until today are making a difference in the country.
“We have had success stories like that of former Child Parliamentarian Anastasia Ndlovu, who has now made it into the Senior Parliament,” he said.
