Tatiana (13), who is the oldest child of Samuel and Florence Chipondaminga, was born in London, West Sussex, before the family moved to the US in January last year in support of her dreams of being a “world-class” singer, song- writer and actress.
King Tatie’s mother-cum-manager, Florence Chipondaminga, said she wass very proud of her daughter and will rally behind her until she gets to the top.
“We are going to support her as much as we can. For starters, we had to move from our London base to the United States where music and acting is more established.”
“King Tatie” broke into limelight at the age of eight. From there she hasn’t looked back as she is set to release a musical album entitled “This is How We Do It” under her own record label Phresh. In 2009 she was approached by some of the world’s popular film directors, Dave McKeown and Candice Brietz (a Germany-based film director), and she shot a documentary. McKeown wanted to sign on the talented teenager who was in New York for the holidays by that time.
“She was trained by the best in the industry in acting, vocals and modelling which involved travelling back and forth between UK and USA. Dave McKeown, producer/casting director for Shirley Grant Management – a premier New York and Teaneck talent agent, known for discovering and kickstarting The Jonas Brothers’ career – wanted to sign on King Tatie. Unknown to him she was in New York on holiday hence she could not take the offer,” her mom said.
The Miley Cyrus-inspired teen is also a model, dancer, rapper, scriptwriter and author who has written a poem published in the UK making a remarkable penetration into the arts industry.
As a potential teen, Tatie joined other world teen stars in the likes of Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Amanda Steinberg and Tyler James Williams who stormed the world stage at a very young age and she looks up to these people a lot. “I always tell myself that I want to dominate, that is why I gave myself the name King. Kings always dominate and conquer and so I want to conquer the world and reach the stars as far as acting and singing is concerned,” said the soft-spoken artiste.
Tatie has so far written more than 21 songs for big artistes like Kanye West, Taylor Swift, Keisha, Rihanna, Chris Brown, Tray Songs and the whole Young Money crew. Although the tracks have not yet been recorded, she hopes the tracks will be recorded anytime soon.
The fast rising teen was recently in Zimbabwe where she performed at gigs which include The Miss Harare Junior, Ice Prince Show and the Hip-Hop Awards. Tatiana was on a tour to market her debut single, “This is How We Do It” which is receiving fair airplay from all three radio stations in the country. Tatie was impressed by the reception she got during the period she was in the country and she promised to visit her home country more often.
“My performance at the Hip-Hop Awards was quite impressive. I loved the way people gestured and sang along to my new single. Clearly it was a warm homecoming welcome,” she said.
