Former farm owners who remained on compulsorily acquired land can now regularise their tenure while those who had offer letters can apply for 99 year leases, a Senior Government official has said.
Finance and Economic Development Minister Mthuli Ncube announced this at a joint press conference by the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development and Ministry of Lands, Agriculture Water and Rural Resettlement.
Former white commercial farmers were also represented.
Minister Ncube said former farm owners who are indigenous Zimbabweans or citizens which ratified Bilateral Investment Protection and Promotion Agreements or Bilateral Investment Treaties with Zimbabwe at a time their land was compulsorily acquired for restatement are entitled to compensation for both land and improvements.
On the downsizing of land Minister Ncube said fully utilised farmers will be exempted.
“Government has taken a deliberate policy position to initially exempt fully utilised productive farms from downsizing until agricultural land under multiple farm ownership derelict, or underutilised has been brought into production,” he said.
