MANICA Diamonds’ Castle Lager Premiership match against Dynamos at Sakubva yesterday was like the Biblical last supper for coach, Johanisi Nhumwa who has been fired this morning.
In a Press Statement released by the Gem Boys this morning, the club also confirmed the appointment of former Triangle coach, Jairos Tapera as the new head coach.
“Manica Diamonds would like to inform all its stakeholders that the club has parted ways with head coach, Johanisi Nhumwa and his technical team by mutual agreement. We sincerely appreciate the services rendered by the technical team to the club and we wish them well in their future endeavours.
“Meanwhile, the club has appointed Jairos Tapera as the new head coach and he will be assisted by Tafadzwa Mashiri, Patrick Mandizha and Thembinkosi Sibanda. Tichaona Zikai remains the team manager.”
Post Sport also understands that goalkeepers coach, Peter Masibera has been resigned to a different role within the club.
Nhumwa was at the receiving end of a barrage of verbal attacks from fans after Manica Diamonds lost 0-1 to Dynamos at Sakubva Stadium yesterday.
It was a tale of missed opportunities for both Manica Diamonds and Dynamos as their strikers took turns to fluff clearcut scoring opportunities in the first half.
Both teams went for the breather without a goal.
However, Dynamos finally took the lead in the 65th minute when Frank Muparati made the most of an Emmanuel Paga pass in the box as he did well to deceive Manica Diamonds goalkeeper, Jorum Muchambo with a low shot that nestled in the left corner to score what eventually became the only goal of the match.
The result left Nhumwa clueless on what to do to change his team’s fortunes.
“It is the same thing again. We are creating chances, but our conversion rate is terrible. We are just not scoring goals. We have been like this for many matches now and it is something that I think we just have to keep working on to improve.
“In this match, we did well to match the standards of our opponents, but somehow we just could not score after creating so many scoring chances. It’s sad,” said Nhumwa, who endured a barrage of verbal attacks from irate fans after the match.
The fans were baying for his blood and were only restrained by security officials present at the match venue.
