An artisanal miner died while his colleague sustained some injuries when a mine shaft they were working under collapsed at Vambeza C Mine in Gokwe last weekend.

Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said officers who attended the scene found the now deceased, only identified as Foster, still trapped, but Lazarous Mangena survived the accident.

“Mangena doesn’t know the full names of the deceased, they were just working as partners and police are now appealing for the identification of the now deceased who has since been taken to Gokwe North District Hospital mortuary,” said Insp Mahoko
