JUST IN: Zimbabwe national cricket team leaves for Abu Dhabi

THE Zimbabwe men’s senior national cricket team left for Abu Dhabi on Friday afternoon for two Tests and three T20 Internationals against Afghanistan.

They go head-to-head in the first Test from March 2-6, with the second test scheduled for March 10-14.

The two countries will be meeting for the first time in Test cricket since Afghanistan was granted Test status in June 2017. After the the two Tests, they will meet in three T20Is on March 17, 19 and 20.

Sean Williams will skipper the Chevrons, who have the uncapped Wesley Mudhevere in its ranks.

Afghanistan last played a Test match in November 2019, in a one-off encounter against West Indies, which they lost by nine wickets.

Their squad features a host of new faces, with Abdul Malik, Munir Ahmad Kakar, Shahidullah Kamal, Bahir Shah Mohboob, Fazal Haq Farooqi, Saleem Safi and Zia Ur Rahman Akbar all without a Test cap to their names.
