CITY Bowling Club manager Joyce Kachale says this year’s Zimbabwe October Fives tournament was a success as it witnessed a huge turnout with a lot of new young players taking part.
The three-day tournament, which also featured a Thai side, had 16 teams, with the youngest being nine-year-old Anotida Chilundo. “We are happy that it was a successful tournament, all the players enjoyed their matches,” said Kachale.
“This was the first time, in many years, for us to have young players.

“Aaron Chilundo and Austin Kupara are the only players who used to play in the past two years but this time we were happy to see a lot of new faces.
“It was also good to have the Thailand side although they were not among the top three but they enjoyed the experience.”
Alexandra Sports Club’s Chilundo said featuring in the tourney was a huge boost for him.

“I was in the team of the Kadoma bowlers. It was sad we did not win but I enjoyed the experience and it was really a boost for me because I feel the more games, the more experience I gain,” he said.

“Individually, I won my single match against Austin Kupara, I won by one shot and our match ended 18-17.
“I won by one shot, it was a tough encounter.

“My target, by 2016, I must be one of the leading young bowlers for our country so I will keep working hard.” Gabriel Real Estate team proved the strongest team after accruing 77 points with an aggregate of 73. Bulawayo side Cyclone were second.
