AT least 500 youths in Kadoma converged at Jimayi Muduvuri Referral Hospital to celebrate President Mnangagwa’s birthday yesterday.
The President turns 83 today.
The pre-birthday celebration saw youths compete in various sporting activities, including soccer and netball, while at the same time fighting the scourge of drug and substance abuse and the menace of early child marriages.
Speaking on the sidelines of the event, youths wished President Mnangagwa a happy birthday and commended his people-centred policies.
Hilda Kamunda of Ward 5 said President Mnangagwa deserved to be in office until 2030.
“We are grateful to President Mnangagwa for supporting us. He deserves to be in office until 2030, and we pray to God that he gives him a long life to fulfil his Vision 2030,” she said.
Ms Mavis Myambo, another youth who participated in the event, said President Mnangagwa was a people-centred leader who had seen youths prosper.
Coordinator of the programme, Kudakwashe Kamunda, said the two-week-long tournament, which ended yesterday, was meant to conscientise youths against drug and substance abuse.
“Our leader, President Mnangagwa condemns abuse of illicit drugs and substances.
“As we celebrate his 83rd birthday, we do so by tracing his life from the time he joined the war until this day. He is our role model and we want to encourage all youths to emulate his life,” he said.
The tournament was organised and bankrolled by Kadoma businessman and Zanu PF member, Cde Jimayi Muduvuri.
