Kadoma City workers choke to death in sewer

THE City of Kadoma has plunged into mourning following the death of two workers who suffocated while trying to fix a sewer blockage.
Tafadzwa Guzo reportedly died on the spot while his co-worker Tinotenda Ngwenya died upon admission at Kadoma Hospital after the two were choked while attending to a sewer blockage near St John Kennedy Primary School.
In a statement, the local authority confirmed the incident.
“The City of Kadoma is deeply saddened by the tragic death of two workers in a suspected gas poisoning incident near John Kennedy Primary School on Thursday 28 November 2024,” wrote Town Clerk Mr Malvern Dondo.
He said the council emergency team attended the scene and tried to save lives, to no avail.
“Despite the efforts by our emergency team which was dispatched after the incident was reported, both workers could not make it. The City is collaborating with relevant authorities in investigating the circumstances of the incident. Our priority is to understand the events that led to this tragedy and ensure the safety of all workers,” said the Town Clerk.
He also said the local authority was assisting the affected families.
“Kadoma City expresses its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and the entire community. The council is providing necessary support services to the affected families. We kindly request that the public respect the privacy of the families and coworkers during this difficult time,” further wrote Mr Dondo.
